1. What inspired you to create your own makeup line?
Creating NYX Cosmetics was much more of a need than a want. As a consumer, I always want great quality makeup for an affordable price. When I was young, I had a small budget to spend on makeup and the products in my affordable range didn’t deliver the type of quality that I desired. So I often skipped lunch to save money to buy the products I wanted. My family has been in the beauty industry and I am a makeup lover, but moreover, I am a consumer which inspired me to start NYX Cosmetics - for my friends and for myself. The rest is history.

2. Did you go to school especially for cosmetics?
No, but my place of education was my mom’s perfume and cosmetic store. I spent all my time working there after school, on weekends, and summer and winter vacations. She taught me everything I know especially the value of hard work, honesty, and determination. With those 3 values and a bit of luck, anything is possible. Today, I have a company that was built on pure sweat equity - I mean, I worked my butt off to launch NYX and keep our creed.

3. How did you learn how to apply makeup?
I learned how to apply makeup by practicing on myself. I was always mesmerized by what a little makeup can do - just a little mascara, a little blush, a little gloss can transform a person. I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup in junior high school, but I always wanted to so I snuck makeup out of my house and put it on when I got to school, then I’d wash my face before going home. I guess I was always that girl who wouldn’t take no for an answer.

4. What inspires you to create a new collection?
The ever changing needs and wants of today’s fashionista motivates me to create something new. It’s my job to develop something fun and exciting for makeup and fashion lovers like myself!

5. Who is your biggest beauty influence?
My friends have been an incredible influence for me as well as glamorous movie stars from the silver screen era, especially Audrey Hepburn. There is a scene from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” where Audrey Hepburn is touching up her heavily lined eyes and something about that scene stuck with me until this day.

6. What should NYX fans expect in 2012?
A hoard of stimulating new items along with freshly designed classic items, like the Doll Eye Mascara. NYX is getting a makeover, so be ready to see lots of new things! It’s important for our brand to have the ability to put on a new face as fashion and time changes. That is without saying, we are keeping the core value of the brand.

7. What are your top 3 makeup must haves?
A little bit of eyeliner, mascara, and a big smile – always.

8. What is your fashion must haves?
I am a shoe addict! I think all of them are my “must haves!”

9. What is your daily makeup routine?
First and foremost, I properly cleanse and moisturize my face. Depending on the outfit, I coordinate my look with my attire, but my makeup application process is really fast! It only takes me less than 10 minutes and I’m ready to conquer the world.

10. What is your favorite NYX product?
They are all my favorite. All 1800 of them!

My first time with makeup was in first grade.:) yeah, I was that young and I was already collecting makeup. I copied looks from magazines and models on TV. The first ever makeup look I did was on my eldest sister. It was her friend’s birthday so I did a bronzey brown eyes and I swear everybody in the house cheered and was surprised ‘cause I did good.:) They loved it so much and that’s when my career as my family’s makeup artist started. They never allowed me to wear makeup on myself until I was in fourth grade ‘cause I have sensitive skin. The first time I had makeup ON MYSELF was fourth grade.:) concealer (as if I have something to conceal back then hehe) lip&cheek tint (that time I have all kinds of cheek tint/stain) and powder. People prefer that I wear cheek tint ‘cause I’m really really pale and the tint looked natural on me. I never had a bad makeup experience and I think that’s the only talent I got!:) and now NYX is helping me in making the world beautiful by making people beautiful!:)

I was about 6th grade and I wanted to look extra chic for school, so I did the best makeup I could. I used a mousse foundation, put on some mascara and some eyeshadow. So far, so good. The result: harsh makeup edges on my skin and sick looking eyes because my eyeshadow was -in fact- red. I know, red! But I thought it was super cool. Until a girl from my class asked me if I actually had red eyeshadow on… Let’s just say- I never used red eyeshadow again. Thinking about that story now makes me smile, I’ve become a pro and I love to do my friends’ makeup, but it’s very funny though. Oh and BTW, when doing my makeup I still swear by NYX!
